Locator Map Instructions

Remember there are two basic ways to use this site. It can be used to explore the study area and its habitat, and see where observations have occurred over the course of the study. To do this, browse the main map instead of this locator map. This locator map is used to place particular wolf observations, such as the most recent wolf observations, on a map, and to see if they fall within the area that includes habitat information. Use this link to go directly to the searchable database that includes the most recent locations. You can use these locations (Township, Range, and Section numbers) to find the wolves on the maps on this site.

Select the Township, Range, and Section of the wolf observation of interest from the boxes above, and click th "GO" button. A small yellow square will appear on th map if the observation falls within the visible blue map extent. This shows the section (approximately one square mile) where the wolf observation occurred. If the yellow square also falls within the gray-gridded part of the blue area, the main map will have habitat information for the area.

For a very few observations in the eastern part of the map, two squares will appear. This is because the extreme eastern portion of the map is east of the range line. In these cases the western square is the true location if the range direction given at the International Wolf Center site was west. The eastern location is the true location if the range direction given is east.
